Green Heron at NMAI

I saw an item in the Post about some people at the Smithsonian who “rescued” some mallards. They shepherded a female and her twelve ducklings back to the pond at the National Museum of the American Indian.

Driving from the bank to another meeting I went down Independence Ave and just happened to see a parking spot right next to the museum (this NEVER happens in real life, just in the movies). I grabbed it and put a quarter in the meter. It failed to acknowledge receipt of the coin (which ALWAYS happens in real life but never in the movies) so I added a dime and a nickel, which it found more to it’s liking.

A quick walk around the pond revealed no signs of ducks or ducklings, but there was a green heron perched on the “fallen” tree.

Not as cute as some balls of down with webbed feet, but a nice surprise.
