I took a slightly different approach on this piece by adding a small Cherry branch as a vertical support. The branch came from my neighbor’s house when he had his Cherry tree removed. It still has most of it’s bark.
The shelf lumber, from a different urban tree, is unusually dense for Cherry. It features a rich, deep color and a very nice spot with some “crotch” figure.
The surfaces of the shelves are finished, but the edges are left mostly as they came – The front edges also show extensive work done by insects; they burrowed under the bark leaving channels which were revealed when the bark was removed.
Hangs on the wall using two keyhole hangers embedded in the back -they hook unto screws driven into the wall.
