Vibe Vanity - Walnut, Ebony

Vibe Vanity, 2006
Private Collection

The piece depicted above is the "Vibe" Vanity, designed on commission for a private collection.  The design was inspired by a song the collector heard on the radio, "Meli Meli" by Cheb Mami.  To complement the "vibe" created by  the curves a Tibetan singing bowl is featured in the top, and the Ebony accents, purchased from a Lutherie, were originally destined for a guitar.

Ordering Custom Furniture

Ordering custom furniture is not something many of us do every day. When we go to a store, the most we get to pick is a paint color or fabric style. If you’ve ever searched for that perfect piece, and been unable to find it – then maybe talking to a furniture artisan is for you.  Worried about wood furniture not fitting into your green lifestyle?

The Process

The process begins with you! Start by thinking about the kind of piece you want. What function will it serve? What room will it be in? Do you have any woods or finishes that you’d like? Jot down some thoughts and then call me at 202-679-0066 or .

The next step is to meet in person. The best place to meet is at your home or office that way I can see the space the piece will be in, get a feel for your style, and take any measurements. During this meeting you’ll discuss your ideas and I will be able really understand what you are looking for.

Now I go to work. I’ll begin by creating some sketches and researching woods and finishes that will enhance the design. Depending on our discussions I may show you two or three ideas before we settle on a final direction. Sometimes I’ll meet with a client a couple of times before presenting the final idea.

The final presentation may include a variety of things like sketches, models, and wood samples. After I present the final idea, you’ll be able to take everything home with you, so you can think things over. Once you’ve decided that this is exactly what you want – then you sign a contract and work begins.

The process is different for each client, but one thing remains the same. You have to call (202.679.0066) or , to get started!
