To Shelter A Memory

Twenty Summers ago, while canoeing in Northern Minnesota, I ran into another teenager who had just landed a monstrous fish. He was holding, but a rope run through it’s gills and mouth, a thirty-six inch Northern Pike. He held it up with one arm and used the other to support his elbow. For someone who had grown up catching and tossing panfish it was an incredible sight. It fired my imagination; how did the fish get that big? How much of a fight did he put up? How are you going to cook ‘im? It is one of those memories that gets punched into one’s brain.

This is a chest meant to house and keep safe something of great import. Something that is meant to be remembered and shared.
