Many pieces of furniture are (narrowly or not) tailored to a specific function; a dining table, a lingerie chest, a dictionary stand, a bookcase, and so on. This one is no exception; it fits the needs of a minority of the population without excluding use by the majority. I wanted to create a piece that solved a problem.

The mirror extends upward to allow the one of the intended users to be able to see the top of his head without ducking or bending his knees. Combing, brushing, and shaving can all be accomplished in a comfortable body position without risk of back strain.

Further, the accessories and sundries for these tasks can all be within reach because of the side-mounted cabinet portion of the piece. The bottom shelf and the flip-down door provide an elevated surface on which these items may rest. The mirror continues behind this box and extends above and below the frame to reinforce the notion that the piece is intended for those of above-average height.
